Lapa Foursquare Church History
The church was founded at 7 pm on October 14th, 1978 by the pastor Jonas Goes. One of the church’s priorities is to take care of people with love and care, letting them know how important they are for God and for us.
|
In a reality marked by suffering , loneliness, fears and anguishs, it is of great importance to let people know that the church can be a friend, a place of affection because it shows God’s mercy, forgiviness and that He loves his children. |

Aimee Elizabeth Kennedy |
Foursquare Church History
Aimee Elizabeth Kennedy was born on October 9th, 1890 on a small farm near Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. She experienced a profound religious conversion at age 17.
Her desire for serving the Lord seemed perfectly fitted to Robert Semple's evangelistic work The two embarked on a missionary trip to China but she was sent back to the USA , widow , and with a daughter. Shortly after returning home, Aimee met and married a businessman, Harold McPherson, with whom she had a son, Rolf.
|
The term "Foursquare Gospel" came about during an intense revival in the city of Oakland, Calif. in July 1922. As thousands had gathered to hear the gospel, the evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson described a vision God had given her, taken from Ezekiel's vision in the book of Ezekiel, chapter one.
When Aimee's life was concluded in 1944, the leadership of the Foursquare movement was entrusted to her only son, Rolf K. McPherson. Since that time the mantle of the Foursquare presidency has passed on to Dr. Harold Helms (interim president, July 1997-July 1998), Dr. Paul Risser (July 1998-2004) and Jack Hayford (2004-present).
During her ministry Aimee not only founded the Foursquare church and the Angelus Temple, she was also responsible for:
1- Creation of Life Bible College and Prayer tower, which several people alternated to pray in two hour shifts in order to be an outcry to God 24 hours a day. .
2- Inauguration of the third radio station in Los Angeles, the KFSG (Call FourSquare Gospel).
3- Foundation of the International Foursquare Evangelization Cross.
4- Organization of the department of Social Welfare Angelus Temple, which fed and clothed around half a million people during the Depression and the Second World War.
5- Publication of several journals and periodicals, as well as the development of various books, plays, operas sacred, music (including the Official Anthem of the Gospel Church of the square) and sermons.
We can find the FSC in 107 countries, but the headquarter is in Los Angeles. Each church has its own way of conducting its activity.
The Gospel Church of the Foursquare, based on the Bible, has a focus deeply Christ-center and is one of the pioneers of Pentecostals Avivamento charismatic churches of the early twentieth century.
Maintaining its dedication by the evangelization of the world, it was borned from the desire of the Holy Spirit and not a division or schism in churches and is being kept together for the glory of God.
Conceived in the heart of the Father, The Gospel Church of the Foursquare message is a glorious message, solid as a rock, as Jesus Christ on which it is founded.

In 1952 they came to the capital of São Paulo to do evangelistic campaigns in the call of the pastor of the Presbyterian church in Cambuci and soon after they went to a tent of canvas in the same neighborhood. From there they went to the neighborhood of Agua Branca and then to the salon in 713 Brigadeiro Galvão Street.
The tent started traveling through the state of Sao Paulo as the number one tent. In the halls of the street Brig Galvão the ladies of the church began to help with a brother who had worked a long time with a circus and that taught to sew tents.
The tents purchased or manufactured in the church itself went out by pilgrim places like Casa Verde, Americana, Limeira, Vitoria, Curitiba and several others. In a wave contagious the movement grew and each tent gave rise to a new core that is a new church.
In all there are 2887 ministers, 1488 aspiring and 10,648 workers accredited (in this total of 15,023 members of the ministry, 5951 are already the ones under the leadership of Pastor George Russell Faulkner, which established itself the goal of bringing the message to each state capital after being scattered in other municipalities. The tents went left and formed a new community. The end of the decades seventy and eighty were marked by dynamic evangelism and the construction of large and beautiful temples.
In 1997 we already counted with 5530 churches and new works (which are running in 2026 Temples, 1778 salons and 1726 Halls Tabernacle of wood), in addition to 4,000 congregations and preaching points that run under the responsibility of local churches. There are also 38,000 deacons and deaconess still working, with a total of approximately 1,600,000 (one million six hundred thousand) members.
The International Foursquare Church is today in 91 countries (since 1944 the sun shines continuously on the Foursquare flag because it is in all continents). Only the Brazilian church already has nine missionaries in seven of these countries.
To prepare people for this ministry, the church contains 40 Theological Midfielders institutes and 100 Basics institutes (with 4500 students and 1200 teachers), a school by correspondence and an intensive course for pastors called CATEP.
The materials used for such courses, in addition to several quality evangelical books and publishes, are prepared and published by Fousquare George Russell Faulkner publisher, located in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
